"Fair Weather Friend"
oil on canvas

--SOLD-- Sometimes when you hear a phrase like “take the high road”, it can mean going in a very different direction than the one on the other road. Choices are made, priorities are set. People change too and they often grow apart. Some for the better, some for the worse. To see the ones you hold close drift away with no destination becomes a sad realization among the bitterness and guilt for thinking something could have been done to stave off the inevitable. The truth is, wishing them well may never be enough when you’re convinced the road they’re on will lead to pitfalls.

When times got tough, when it was time to look reality square in the eye for the difficulties life brings to poor decisions, these fair-weather friends would lock their doors that would otherwise be open to thrills of the moment and actions without recourse. A moral line will be drawn. One that’s not curved or broken. Throughout the course of my lost friendships there have been wrongs on both sides, but for those who’ve moved on I only hope they’ll find direction along their wayward path and stillness from the noise that distresses them.
