This piece is reflective of one of the many times I have been fortunate enough to actually describe the beauty of something without having to say it. After the wedding, Kate and I traveled to Maui and later found ourselves at the summit of Mt. Halaeakala. The moment, which lasted the afternoon, froze me. Ive marveled at many things, but few have made me wonder with such curiosity. I couldnt just take a picture of that. I had to capture it in a way that was more memorable, more tangible.
Ive never seen such a marriage of color work so well. I was completely in tune with the piece and place without a picture or a reference. Just the awesomely exquisite carbon copy in my mind. Iron oranges and reds mingled with the volcanic brown soil that reflected its warmth above a sheet of babysoft clouds and against a sky that was as blue as my wifes eyes. When it was done, I saw her face and knew both of us had never left the summit.
