Artist Statement about "Love Pangs of Paint and Company":

A while ago, after working strictly in scribbling in color mode, I became enthused with Color Field paintings, and then made a decision that altered the course of my knowledge, as I sought to bridge my own Abstract Expressionist roots with more orderly yet expressive painting styles. My cross between sbstract expressionism and Color Field, with its hints of realism and spatial dimensions are the "Peg" paintings. These pieced-together forms can often be seen as looking at a contoured bedrock of multicolored plates, a ridge receding into curtained space, sky, or water as in varied forms through the triptych titled "Generations 1944-97".

The general peg composition is twice removed and then loosely based on an adaptation of "Marine Locusts Born to Kill", a painting by Forrest Elliott of Austin, Texas. It was then adapgted on itself several times like folding dough on intself and kneeding, resulting in twenty or so such paintings, a series. The applicaiton techniques used are my own I suppose, but borrowed from harbor scenes by Monet, and other various inpressionist technicians. These pegs then, the combinatin of Abstract Expressionism an Color Field leads to something like Impressionism, or orderly expressionistic spatial and general surface abstractions. The key is that shade value plays as much a part as how that color is used, where, and what it eventually is juxtaposed with, but with harmony in mind...brooding, sometimes, but harmoniously brooding.
It's like a love pang in company.
